Container Delivery Warrington

The container size, delivery vehicle and condition of the site all need to work together.

For most customers, choosing a container is only half the decision. You also need to know how it will arrive and where it can be placed once it’s off the lorry. Access, delivery method and ground conditions

Most container deliveries use a lorry fitted with a crane or lifting arm, commonly known as a hiab. This allows the driver to lift the container from the truck and place it on a prepared area, so a separate crane isn’t usually needed. A flatbed or skeletal trailer may be used in some situations, particularly where the customer has unloading equipment or the unit is being moved between depots.

The CSC plate and current inspection status become essential, and the unit’s condition needs to match the intended journey rather than just the current storage job. Freight handling and liability can also matter when a container moves between different parties. The standard freight liability terms published by BIFA may be relevant where a transport company is moving the unit, storing it between movements or handing it over as part of a wider logistics contract.

Security and condensation

Plan security before delivery, not after the container is already on site. A lockbox protects the padlock from side cutting, while a disc lock adds another layer of resistance. Good lighting, clear sight lines and positioning the doors away from public access can all help reduce risk. On shared sites, place the unit where staff and contractors can access it in a controlled way.

Condensation is common in steel containers because temperature changes can create moisture inside. Keep the vents clear, store goods off the floor and don’t put wet materials straight into the unit. Desiccants or a dehumidifier may help where the contents are sensitive. For valuable goods, breathable packaging and regular checks are generally safer than sealing everything inside and leaving it untouched for long periods.

  • Touch up damaged paint promptly to help limit corrosion

Simple aftercare can reduce avoidable callouts and help the container stay usable for longer. For hired units, ongoing support usually includes checking door gear, repositioning the container if the site changes, and replacing worn seals or fittings. Purchased units need the same basic care, but the owner is responsible for inspections and upkeep.
